Prêtés par un patient la semaine dernière, deux romans de Ben Elton en VO, chouette !
Je ne connaissais pas cet auteur, et je me suis vraiment régalée à lire le premier : "Dead Famous"

However, Elton adds a clever twist to this very funny send-up. On Day 27 of the programme, one of the housemates is killed live on TV. Everyone in the country has a theory about the killer, "indeed the only person who seemed to have absolutely no idea whatsoever of the killer's identity was Inspector Stanley Spencer Coleridge, the police officer in charge of the investigation". Coleridge is an old fogey from the 1950s, who has to learn quickly about lesbians, piercings, blow jobs and the seductions of TV fame before he can crack the case. Elton's wicked parody of the housemates is brilliant, the murder fiendish in its ingenuity, and the ending wonderfully over the top. Dead Famous is great fun, and even has some social comment thrown in for good measure. --Jerry Brotton --

La télé-réalité dans toute sa splendeur et sa décadence !! Premier Ben Elton que je lis, qui m'a donné envie d'en lire plus ! L'intrigue est très rondement menée, même si les avancées-reculs dans le temps au début du livre sont un peu perturbants par moments. Le choix de tout "caler" sur la temporalité du show est intéressant et séquence le livre un peu comme une émission, l'ambiance est bien là. De plus, je n'ai compris l'intrigue qu'au dernier moment (et c'est rare).

Il y a en fait deux aspects dans ce livre : tout d'abord un bon polar, dans le monde de la TV, ensuite une satire cinglante sur la TV, la TV-réalité, et sur nous, public avide, voyeur et parfois malsain....

J'ai lu ensuite "Popcorn"

Copycat, meurtres en série sans raison, films violents, monde Hollywoodien, grandeur et décadence... Du sang, plein, des meurtres, plein aussi.... un peu trop pour moi !
Toujours aussi satirique, toujours cet oeil aiguisé sur notre société dans laquelle chacun peut être coupable "sauf moi", la déresponsabilisation en question... Mais poussé un peu loin à mon goût, et aussi, finalement, dans cette débauche d'horreurs parfois hilarantes, je me suis parfois perdue !
Un bon roman donc, mais j'ai très largement préféré "dead Famous".
